In honor of the upcoming 2016 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, we wanted to spotlight several of the many ACE member institutions giving back to their communities.
From Jan. 18-23, 10 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) will participate in an historic weeklong initiative to honor the day of service and commemorate the legacy of Dr. King.
The “MLK HBCU Spread the Service Campaign” is supported by a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, which will enable ACE members Albany State University (GA), Dillard University (LA), Huston-Tillotson University (TX), Jackson State University (MS), Morehouse College (GA) and five other institutions to partner across the southeast region in the nation’s largest day of civic engagement.
More than 60,000 students, faculty and staff will volunteer their time to a variety of projects, including community gardening and beautification projects, financial literacy and on-site education activities, disaster relief initiatives, and assistance for seniors.
